Louisiana Lineman Interested in U

Destrehan (La.) defensive tackle Marrick Charles holds a multitude of offers from schools in the southern part of the country. Recently a new school located in the North has stepped up and offered the big tackle. GoldenSports.net was able to talk to Charles and get the latest on his recruitment.

"My recruitment has been going pretty good," Charles said. "I have offers from Arkansas, South Alabama, Southern Miss., Minnesota, Tennessee, Louisiana Tech, Louisiana-Monroe and recently Memphis but I can't remember them all off the top of my head."

With an impressive offer list like he has what are some of the things he'll be looking for in a school?

"I'm looking for a place where I can graduate in four years," he said. "Also I'm looking for a place where I get a good vibe from the players and the coaching staff. It will also depend on if I like the school or not as well."

A few weeks ago the Gophers coaching staff called Charles' coach and told him that they have offered. Since then Charles has not had much contact with the staff. He also said that he does not know much about the University of Minnesota but hopes to learn more.

Despite not being able to build up a relationship with the staff so far Charles said that he might take an official visit during the season to check out the campus and the program.

Although he is not rushing to make a decision, Charles explained what he is trying to improve before making the jump to college.

"As a player I feel like I can out-match anyone who goes against me, but that's against high school competition," Charles said. "At the next level I will have to work on my strength and speed so I can match-up with guys in college. So this off-season I'm working on my getting stronger, my footwork and getting my forty time down."

As of right now Charles claims that he has no leader and will take his time to make sure he picks the right school.
