Getting to Know Ernie Heifort
Looking back, would you change anything about the recruiting process?
"I wish that I would have started sending film to schools and contacting schools earlier than I did."
What was your favorite part about the recruiting process and what was the worst?
"My favorite part was getting letters from coaches that I could show off to family and friends. Getting too many calls was my least favorite thing, but that's part of the process."
Why did you end up picking Minnesota?
"The feeling of a family-like atmosphere within the coaching staff and the players. It just felt like the right place to be."
What are your goals as a freshman?
"To get stronger and faster—plain and simple."
What have been your impressions of the new coaching staff?
"I really like them. They are all really close and seem know what the other is going to do, so they can plan what's best for the offense or defense. And Coach Kill was really straight forward and honest with me."
Do you have any pre-game rituals?
"Well, I try and stick to myself as much as possible, just play the game out in my head before it happens. I don't listen to music, I just stay focused on what I have to do."
What is some of your favorite music to listen to?
"Country, rap—I like most of it. Josh Turner, Rascal Flatts, Dierks Bentley."
What are your favorite movies?
"Remember the Titans of course, The Bucket List."
What are three things you can't live without?
"Cell phone, football, and family and friends."
What's your favorite non-football hobby?
"Fishing and hunting."
What type of hunting do you like best?
What are your thoughts about staying in your home state to play?
"They were my thoughts all along if that makes sense. I always wanted to stay in state so my family could watch me play. And playing at Minnesota was a dream of mine since I was a little kid."
