"I've been waiting on an offer and God opened the perfect door for me," he said of committing to Minnesota.
Prior to giving his pledge, Williams did plenty of research on his future school.
"I talked to the head coach and I think the he can rebuild this program," he said. "I like the school and we researched everything about them. They have a very good academic program."
Williams' commitment came last week when he called head coach Jerry Kill. "I called Coach Kill, he was overjoyed," said Williams.
The Minnesota staff has reason to be happy with the pledge from Williams.
"They said they haven't had a running back like me since Brandon Jacobs," he said.
Williams feels like he can be a similar type of back at the next level.
"I'm a pretty big back," he said. "I'm a power back. I'm 220 right now and I run a 4.5. And I'm a good team player too—I can work with a lot of people."
While he has not yet visited the Twin Cities, he will have the chance to when he takes an official visit on September, 16th.
"I'm excited to see what Minnesota's like," he said. "And I want to see Mall of America."
