Coach Kill Talks USC

Coach Jerry Kill addressed the media at his weekly press conference to discuss the season opener against the Trojans of USC.

With Jerry Kill's first game with Minnesota fast approaching, he is looking forward to finding out what his team is made of in a real game scenario.

"We'll know a lot more about our team when we play USC and we'll know a lot more about it the next week, and we've got to make sure we get prepared for the Big Ten and make sure we've got everybody where they need to be and try and stay as healthy as we can be to get to the Big Ten," he said.

When the Gophers travel to Southern California, they will run into one of their toughest road tests of the season. One player who stands out for Kill is Trojan quarterback, Matt Barkley.

"[He's a] first round draft pick, said Kill of Barkley. "He's as good as some of the guys that came out this year. He's a good player."

With Barkley at the helm, Kill understands that USC will be a very difficult opening game.

"They're fast, they're big, they're strong," he said. "You all seen them here last year. I think that's what you can go by and what we've seen throughout the year. We've certainly got their video, watching all the stuff. They improved immensely as the year went on. They're a good, athletic team."

With an experienced defense, the Gophers will need stop in order to walk out of USC with a victory.

"Defensively are we going to be able to keep everybody in the gap and do what they were taught, or is somebody going to get undisciplined and do their own thing and the ball goes 50 yards," said Kill. "I don't know, but we'll just have to see."
