Gophers Still Pursuing Wray

Shelby (N.C.) defensive end Carlos Wray committed to the Duke Blue Devils earlier this summer but that hasn't stopped teams from recruiting the talented lineman. One of the schools coming hard after Wray are the Minnesota Golden Gophers. GoldenSports.net was able to catch up with Wray and get the latest on his season so far and his recruitment.

"The season for Shelby started off kind of slow with a major coaching change, a new offense and some other changes but we're slowly finding it," Wray said. "For me, the season is going pretty well. I've moved around from defensive end, to tackle to playing nose tackle and even standing up on the edge."

Even though he has been committed to Duke since June, it hasn't stopped teams from recruiting the multi-talented lineman.

"Kentucky and Auburn have started inviting me to games," he said. "I haven't had a chance to visit anywhere just yet and some colleges have backed off and some new faces have appeared."

With some teams backing off and others stepping up their recruitment where do the Gophers fall?

"I talked with Coach Zebrowski a couple of days ago and there could be something there," said Wray.

With Minnesota continuing their recruitment of Wray, there is a possibility he could take a visit to the Twin Cities.

"That's the big idea that both sides have been working on, so we'll see what happens."

With his recruitment seemingly picking up as the season progresses, Wray is still committed to Duke but is also looking around at other possibilities.

"My commitment is still fairly firm, but my options are way open."
