After taking a few visits to various schools, Eastern Michigan proved to be the best all-around fit for the speedy wide receiver.
"The education is the main part that caught me because they have everything I need in terms of what to do with my future," he explained. "And I was sold by the football program after visiting the school the first time and hearing everything they're doing to make their program better."
Hughes plans to take an official visit to his future home, but as of now, no date as been set.
"We are getting everything set up to do that," he said. "We just got to make sure we can pick the right date that doesn't interfere with my game schedule and stuff."
Hughes and his Minneapolis Washburn teammates have one game left in the regular season.
"On October 19 we play for the Twin City Championship which will be a good game to see for sure," he said.
On the season, the 5-foot-7, 160-pound Hughes has rushed eight times for 56 yards while hauling in 14 receptions for 367 yards and five touchdowns.
