Aka Talks Commitment

Pike (Ind.) athlete Pierre Aka has been committed to Iowa State for two weeks but has yet to speak about his decision. GoldenSports.net has the latest from Aka about his college choice.

Aka, who projects as a defensive end or tight end at the next level, gave his verbal commitment to the Iowa State Cyclones two weeks ago.

"I called Coach [Wally] Burnham and he was very excited about the commitment and congratulated me."

The 6-foot-4, 250-pound athlete held offers from the likes of Minnesota, Northern Illinois, and Miami (Ohio). He also had interest from Northwestern, Michigan and Purdue. With a handful of offers and plenty of interest, Aka saw certain things in Iowa State which caused him to end his recruitment.

"I really enjoyed the fact that they put so much into the athletes as far as academics and helping student athletes succeed in the classroom and I love the coaches," he said. "[They have a] great campus. They play in the Big 12 so that means I get to travel back to Texas and play there since I've lived there for a while before coming to Indiana. I get to go back and play there which is great."

Although he was planning on taking more official visits, Aka decided Iowa State was too good to pass up.

"I really couldn't find any negatives in going to Iowa State so I really thought it through and said ‘What am I waiting on?'"

After making his decision, Aka is solid in his choice and doesn't plan on taking any other visits.

"I'm solidly committed to ISU," he said.
