Jerry Kill and his staff have been closely following Gillum since they offered him in 2009 at Northern Illinois. Gillum was then a senior at Pearl River High School with offers from Mississippi State, Louisiana-Lafayette, and Northern Illinois to go along with a few others.
"The coaches came to see me last Thursday in Mississippi. We also talked about me coming there," Gillum said.
Gillum had the opportunity to visit Minnesota earlier this season on the weekend of July 28.
In a previous interview with scout he had this to say about his visit, "It was great. I liked it out there and had a good time. I liked the whole city and the campus. It's just a great place."
Gillum ran for nearly 1,300 yards and 16 touchdowns last season as a freshman at Mississippi Gulf Coast. In six games this season, Gillum has ran for 616 yards on 127 while finding the endzone five times. Gillum's success on the field has helped the team to a 6-1 start with two games remaining in the season.
