Recruiting Notes: Committed to Minnesota
Williams is being recruited by Minnesota to play tight end, which is one of the few positions he didn't line up at in this game. He began by attempting a surprise onside kick to open the game, and then played most of the game at quarterback and strong safety, but also lined up at running back a few times and as a linebacker.
He is a big, strong, tough football player who rarely came off the field. He wore down the Mankato West defense – running through them with his shoulder down and his feet moving, punishing tacklers along the way. He doesn't change direction much or try to juke anybody, he mostly just runs north and south and tries to run people over, but he does a good job at it.
One time, Williams lined up at running back on fourth-and-1 and it seemed every person in the stadium knew he was going to get the ball, yet he still managed to gain 12 yards on the play. With his mix of versatility, athleticism, and toughness, Williams should make a great addition to the Gopher squad.
