Gophers Add JUCO Commit

Blinn College (Texas) defensive back Jeremy Baltazar took a visit this past weekend to Minnesota and found plenty to like in the Twin Cities. After receiving an offer from the Gophers, Baltazar committed Sunday night, becoming the latest member of Minnesota's 2012 class.

Baltazar has an impressive resume, playing for one of the top junior college teams in the country this past season.

"We went undefeated in the regular season and were ranked number-one in the nation and then we lost our first playoff game," he said.

Baltazar was one of a handful of JUCO defensive backs on visits this weekend to Minnesota. With Wisconsin in town, Baltazar loved the atmosphere of the rivalry game.

"The atmosphere, the place, the fans, the stadium, the coaches, everything I went to was very good," he said when asked what his favorite part of the visit was.

The Gopher coaching staff stood out to Baltazar as well.

"They showed me a really nice time and they explained to me certain situations," he said. "They were really nice and they seemed like they know what they're doing and building better programs."

Along with the being impressed with the football program, he also enjoyed the academic aspects of Minnesota.

"I was looking at the academics and just to see what the atmosphere of the whole city was," he said.

Although he had interest from a number of other schools including Mississippi State and Kansas State, Baltazar decided to make the call to the Gopher coaches, ending his recruitment.

"They were happy that I decided to go ahead and commit early and they were happy to know they had another cornerback," he said.

A polished player, Baltazar plans on bringing a complete game to the Gophers' secondary next season.

"I would describe myself as an aggressive corner, physical likes to come up and make the tackle but can also get down and cover," he said. "I can play up and press or play off. I'd describe myself as a very good all-around corner."

How does the newest Gopher feel about finding the right school?

"It feels good to know that I'm going to a good program and a good school."
