Keith Pounces on Gopher Offer

Columbia (Mo.) Hickman defensive end made a trip up to Minnesota for Gophers' game against the Wisconsin Badgers. Today Keith was able to sit down with Gophers' coach Brian Anderson for an in-school visit in which the Gophers offered the talented defensive end. It didn't take long for Keith to make his decision as he called Jerry Kill to give his verbal commitment.

Today, Gopher running back coach Brian Anderson made a visit to Columbia to sit down with Keith and extend an offer to the defensive end.

"He came down today and met me in school and then said that they were offering me," Keith said. "He showed me the campus and videos and just talked to me about playing."

After receiving the offer it didn't take long for Keith to pull the trigger on a commitment. One of the big things that Keith liked about Minnesota was the coaching staff.

"I just spoke with Coach Kill tonight to tell him I was committed. He told me not to rush into it but I told him I was verbally committed to Minnesota. He wants me to talk it over with my family and call again tomorrow but he'll get the same answer that I'm committed to Minnesota." Keith said. "I just liked the school a lot and mostly it's the staff. I just really like the staff a lot. They all seemed really friendly and nice, I don't know if it's just a recruiting thing but they're all very good to me."

Keith's family also enjoyed their visit to Minnesota and feel that it is the right place for him.

"They loved Minnesota and they thought it was the nicest place I've been so far and they're really happy for me," he said.

Keith made a visit to Minnesota when the Gophers played the Wisconsin Badgers where the atmosphere and coaching staff really stuck out to him.

"I didn't get to do too much on my visit, it was a really good atmosphere they looked really good and I really liked the coaching staff a lot," he said.

One of the coaching staff's major selling points to Keith was a chance at early playing time.

"They want me to play next year because they say I'm already bigger than their current starter and they think I can step in and play right away," Keith said.

Right now Keith doesn't know what he wants to go to school for but is focused on getting a good education for his post-football career.

"I really don't know what I want to major in, I just want to go up get a good education then get a good job."

So what can Gopher fans expect Keith to bring to the Gophers defense next year?

"Physically I have a good pass rush I'm pretty fast and I just love to play football."

Aside from the new Gophers offer Keith also had offers from Missouri State and Northern Iowa, while other schools mostly spoke with his coach.

"I have offers from Minnesota now, UNI and Missouri State. I really hadn't talked to any other schools in a while they mostly talked with my coach," he said.
