JUCO CB on Gophers' Radar

With the departure of a number of key defensive backs, the Gophers are looking for depth that can play the position right away. One such player who fits the mold is Southwest Mississippi Community College defensive back Fidel Montgomery.

Montgomery was previously committed to Temple but was unable to gain admittance due to academic issues. He now has everything in order and will be a December graduate which would allow him to be enrolled for spring practice.

With his academics straightened out, the JUCO defensive back is hearing from LA Tech, Mississippi State, and Minnesota.

Montgomery said the coaches from LA Tech visited him on Monday and the Minnesota coaches would be visiting him on Wednesday—possibly setting up an official visit to Minneapolis.

While he doesn't have any offers at the moment, Montgomery believes that a Minnesota offer could be on the way.

"When they come visit me and if they talk about bringing me (up to Minnesota) for a visit, they're more than likely gonna offer me," he said.

While the 5-foot-11, 179-pounder is hopeful for a Golden Gopher offer on Wednesday, he does plan on taking all of his visits before committing.
