Pierce Eyeing Minnesota

Brett Pierce, a 6-foot-5 senior defensive lineman from Academy of Holy Angels, led the Stars to an 8-1 record before losing in the section finals to South Saint Paul. While Pierce's high school football career is over, he now has an opportunity to focus on his recruitment which has been heating up.

Pierce currently holds scholarship offers from North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming. He has "talked a little bit about being a preferred walk-on" with the home state Gophers. Pierce had intended to attend the Gophers' camp over the summer but was unable to after getting injured at his first camp, Wisconsin. The injury was healed in time for him to go to Iowa State's camp at the end of the summer.

Without an offer for the Gophers, would walking on be an option for Pierce?

"At this point, not really," he said. "After my visit (it could change), because they do want me to come visit. It really depends on how the visit goes."

At the moment, Pierce is "very interested in Wyoming." The Holy Angels star likes the fact that he has been able to build a good relationship with the Wyoming coaching staff and that they would "want me to play early". This opportunity is "really exciting" to the defensive lineman.

Pierce plans on visiting Wyoming and possibly the Golden Gophers as well. He would like to take his visits before committing but also acknowledged that it is possible that a decision could come sooner.
