Florida Safety Preps For Minnesota Visit

Pensacola (Fla.) safety Damarius Travis recently picked up an offer from the Minnesota Golden Gophers and is planning a trip up to Minneapolis this coming weekend. GoldenSports.Net was able to speak with Travis and get the latest on his recruitment.

Travis and the Pensacola Tigers had a rather successful season this year finishing the regular season 8-2 and winning their first playoff game before falling to Monsignor Pace in the second round of the playoffs.

"My season was pretty good," Travis said. " We lost to Pace 20-10 in the regional semifinals and our overall record was 9-3."

Alcorn State and the Minnesota Gophers have recently offered in the past couple weeks bringing his scholarship total to four.

"I just recently got and offer from Minnesota. Alcorn State just offered a couple weeks ago and I've had offers from Florida International and Western Michigan," Travis said.

Minnesota's defensive backs coach has been taking the lead in Travis' recruitment for the Gophers and has been recruiting Travis as a safety.

"Minnesota has been talking to me a lot lately," Travis said. "The only person I know right now is Coach Sawvel who's recruiting me as a safety."

Travis is planning his first official visit this weekend to Minnesota and is looking forward to meeting Coach Kill as well as the rest of the staff and checking out what Minnesota has to off academically and facility wise.

"I'm looking forward to meeting head coach, Coach Kill, and the rest of the staff," Travis said. "I also want to see the facilities up there and academically wise see what kind of majors they have to offer."

Travis also plans on visiting Western Michigan, FIU and Alcorn State in early to mid-January and then making a decision some time in January.

"I plan to go to Western Michigan the first week of January, then after that FIU about middle of January and Alcorn State sometime after that," Travis said. "I think I'd like to make a decision sometime in January."

Travis is looking for a school that can offer good academics, a good team, facilities and coaching staff.

"I'm looking for a good academic school and a good football team too," Travis said. "Good facilities and a good coaching staff."

When Travis does enroll in college he would like to major in either engineering or pre-law.

"I think I'd like to enroll in some type of engineering or law school."
