Trussell Talking With Gophers

The Gophers are looking to fill out the 2012 class with solid depth. One player that has started to attract interest from Minnesota is Martin (Texas) offensive tackle Connor Trussell. caught up with Trussell to discuss his recruitment.

Connor Trussell currently holds one offer from has been hearing from a number of teams late in the cycle.

"I have an offer to New Mexico," he said. "Right now I don't really know where it stands just because of their coaching changes. I've heard a little bit from Minnesota, from Arkansas State, Colorado State. I have a visit set up to Central Arkansas and in the process of trying to get one set up to FAU."

With plenty of teams interested, Trussell knows what he is looking for in a school.

"I come from a winning school so I'd like to have coaches that want to win and have a good winning team," he said. "Good facilities. I really like to connect with the coaches a lot. I don't want it to be too terribly far from home. I'm also trying to major in criminal justice, so they need to have that."

Trussell's high school team certainly had a dominant season this year.

"We made it to the fourth round in the playoffs—we lost to South Lake," he said. "We had the most winning season in school history this year. Every year we step it up a notch. Last year they had their winningest season and this year we stepped it up and made it another winning season."

The strong season helped Trussell progress as a player.

"I think I did great," he said. "Our strength and conditioning coach prepared us extremely well for any situation. I think I developed great—got stronger, quicker and more physical up front. We have one of the biggest offensive lines we've ever had—just power running. I loved getting more physical and ready for college." Trussell now describes himself as a tough, physical lineman.

"I'm big, I'm physical, I'm a finisher and that's what you'll see out of me on every play," he said. "I'll stick with my guy the whole play until the whistle blows. That's what our coaches emphasize the most—to finish. The average play is six seconds. Our coach emphasized to play for 6.16 seconds and I'll play as long as I possibly can until I finish the guy or he's on his back. That's how I play."

This style of play has caught the attention of the Gophers.

"I've been talking to a scout, very little, he said. "I actually talked to him a little bit today. He's getting all my film and stuff to other coaches. He really likes my tape. He likes how powerful I am how good I was at the run blocking. It hasn't been too much from them but it seems like he has some real good interest in me and he said he liked me a lot."

Trussell is interested in taking a visit to the Twin Cities.

"Oh definitely," he said. "I would love to go up there and visit them."

If Minnesota were to offer, they would be near the top of Trussell's list.

"I want to definitely play Division-I football and I love football. Minnesota is a good program. I definitely wouldn't mind going away and playing there for them."
