Dicke Accepts Preferred Walk-On Offer

Cannon Falls (Minn.) athlete Cedric Dicke recently fulfilled a childhood dream by accepting a preferred walk-on spot to play for the Golden Gophers.

"It's been my dream ever since I was a little kid to be a Golden Gopher," Dicke said. "I grew up wearing Maroon and Gold. And when coach Kill gave me that opportunity that was awesome. I was really excited."

On defense, where Dicke will likely end up at Minnesota, the 6-foot-3, 215-pounder compiled an impressive three interceptions and four defensive touchdowns during his final high school season.

"[The coaches] want me to play safety or linebacker," he said. "Wherever they put me at they're gonna put me in situations where my strengths will be used and not where my weaknesses are."

The versatile athlete has been on the Gophers' radar since last February when he attended a junior day at Minnesota. Although Dicke didn't have any scholarship offers he did have other options.

"North Dakota State offered me a preferred walk on," he explained. "We had an official to South Dakota State (planned) and I think they might have offered."

Now that Cedric has committed to his dream school is he going on any more visits?

"No. I don't think so."
