Andre McDonald announced on a local Minnesota news station that he will remain in the state and play for the Gophers next year. McDonald will add to an already deep wide receiver class for Jerry Kill and his staff.
The Golden Gopher recruiting class got a huge boost on Thursday night when Minnetonka (Minn.) Hopkins wide receiver spurned offers from Vanderbilt, UCLA, Iowa, Michigan State and Ohio State to stay in-state and play for Minnesota.
"The coaches just kept such a firm relationship with me," McDonald explained as to why he chose the Golden Gophers. "They kept talking to me and they just kind of showed they are there no matter what. Every school kept in contact with me but Minnesota, I just feel, like I have my father figure away from home."
McDonald finished his senior season at Hopkins with 60 receptions for 1,251 yards and 17 touchdowns.
