Recruiting Notes: Committed to Minnesota

Maye is a high school quarterback who is being recruited to Minnesota as an athlete, so his abilities at QB may or may not matter, but for what it's worth he seems to have good footwork for a QB along with good throwing mechanics.

He does a great job maneuvering in the pocket to avoid pressure and uses his athleticism to escape when necessary. He does a great job of keeping his eyes downfield when moving out of the pocket and throws well on the run too.

As good as he looks throwing the ball, Maye's biggest asset, and probably the reason he is being recruited as an athlete, is his speed. His 40 yard time is listed as 4.4, and it shows when he is outrunning defenders on the field.

He also shows great vision and awareness and is able to change gears and accelerate very quickly. Being a QB means that he probably was not given the opportunity to return punts or kicks in high school, but if he has the ability to catch the ball well, he should get some chances to contribute in that capacity for Minnesota.

Look for him to make an early impact on special teams, and then hopefully find a position that will be a great fit for him and for the Gophers.
