Halmon Getting BCS Interest

One 2013 prospect that the Gophers have been after for sometime is Bamberg (S.C.) defender Nicholas Halmon. Halmon has interest from a number of number schools, including Minnesota.

Halmon is a 5-foot-10, 175-pound safety from South Carolina. The talented junior has seen a rise in recruiting interest recently and expects more to follow.

"It's been pretty good," he said of the recruiting process. "My coach is finishing up my tape this week which is great and I've been hearing from Virginia Tech, Ole Miss, North Carolina, Virginia, Clemson, Wake Forest, Tennessee, NC State, Minnesota, and a little bit from Florida State."

Halmon doesn't claim any offers but is hopeful that sending his tape out will help land the first one.

"It's still early and once my film gets out I should hopefully get a few," he said. "But Virginia Tech, North Carolina and NC State are on the verge."

With a lot of schools interested, Halmon has a list of things he would like to find in a school.

"I'm looking importantly at academics, location, family atmosphere, facilities, and how the coaches interact with the players," he said.

Halmon is planning visits to Virginia Tech, North Carolina, North Carolina State, and Auburn. A visit to the Gophers is a possibility for Halmon as well.

"So far I've been getting a load of mail and e-mails from them," he said. "It's a good on the rise program. Maybe I can get up there for a visit. But I don't know right now."
