Johnson Getting Big Ten Looks

One intriguing defensive prospect from Minnesota is Lakeville North defender Mitch Johnson. Johnson has been hearing from Big Ten schools and will attend the Gophers' Junior Day this weekend.

Johnson, a 5-foot-11, 190-pound safety had a great junior season, both as a player and as a team with Lakeville North. The Panthers had a great regular season, making it to the state tournament.

"We went 10-1, undefeated through the regular season and sections and lost first round of state," he said.

In just 11 games, Johnson recorded 122 tackles 8.5 sacks, 10 tackles for a loss, three forced fumbles and five interceptions. After just a solid year, Johnson has been receiving interest from two Big Ten schools.

"I've talked to Minnesota and Iowa," he said. "They just said they like what they see on tape and I should go to their camp."

Johnson will take a visit to Minnesota this weekend for the Gophers' Junior Day.

I'm looking forward to seeing the whole stadium and being able to talk to the coaches," said Johnson.

As he takes visits, Johnson knows what he is looking for in a school.

"I'm just looking for a school that has a great football program, a friendly staff, and just a place that I feel comfortable at," he said.

Although he hasn't taken his visit to the Gophers' yet, there are already aspects of the program that Johnson likes.

The coaches that I have talked to seem very nice, and when I went to games, the stadium and facilities looked very nice as well."
