Last year, Johnny had 2,500 yards passing, 300 yards rushing with 22 touchdown passes and also had seven rushing touchdowns.

"Minnesota offered me a scholarship last week and I decided to make a commitment." Carlson said.

"The U (Minnesota) is close to home and I got along very well with the coaching staff on my visit. Minnesota was competitive on the field last year and that also played a part in my decision.

"I'm being recruited as a quarterback, but the coaches also told me that I could see some action as a true freshman as a safety.

"Minnesota had a very good recruiting class last year and we have started out pretty good this year. My commitment is solid."

Carlson is a two-sport star for Hopkins. He participates in track and runs the 110-high hurdles.
