Storyline: Coming off a sweep at Nebraska Omaha the Gophers only need one victory this weekend to gain at least a share of the regular season WCHA title. The Badgers also swept last weekend, winning both games over Bemidji State. Despite the poor record, expect an inspired performance from Wisconsin as they try to play the spoiler as the Gophers chase the MacNaughton Cup.
Season to Date: The Badgers are below .500 in the conference and have struggled to win on the road, posting just three road victories including last weekend's sweep. Although Wisconsin has had a below average season, they do hold key victories over North Dakota, Minnesota, and Denver. This young Badger squad could be hitting its stride late in the season.
Coaching Preview: Mike Eaves is in his 10th season on the bench for the Badgers. He has a career record of 192-138-42, all with Wisconsin. Among his many accomplishments while coaching in Madison, Eaves has been to the NCAA championship game twice, winning the title in 2006.
Last Meeting: The two teams met back in November with Wisconsin winning on Friday night 3-1. The Gophers bounced back on Saturday to win easily by a score of 4-1.
Series History: Minnesota is dominating the all-time series by a tally of 153-84-20.
Hobey Candidate: The Badgers boast one of the top defensemen in the country in junior Justin Schultz. The British Columbia native has an impressive 15 goals and 27 assists on the year for 42 points.
Injured Gophers: The Badgers will have to deal with two Gophers returning to the lineup tonight after injuries. Ben Marshal and Nick Larson will be ready for tonight's game. Star forward Nick Bjugstad is listed as day-to-day with an injury but could see the ice tonight.
