After landing his brother Scott Ekpe in last year's class the Gopher staff has been coming hard after the younger Ekpe this year to try and get him to join his brother.
"They've come to my house because my brother is up there and come to spring ball to watch me so they've been recruiting me pretty hard," Ekpe said.
With his brother Scott already enrolled at Minnesota, Hendrick has been able to get some inside info on the coaching staff, school and city. Even though his brother is already a Gopher Ekpe says that playing with his brother doesn't exactly make the Gophers a shoo-in as his future school.
"He said it's a good staff, good school and there are many things to do since it's in a big city," Ekpe said. "I wouldn't say it's a dream to play with my brother, I don't know where I'm going to go right now but it would be good to play with him if that's what I end choosing."
Ekpe's biggest factor in choosing his future school will be the education program since it's not guaranteed that he'll end up going to the NFL.
"First of all I'm looking for a good education program, it's not really just about sports because you don't know if you will go to the NFL so it's a good to have a back-up plan," Ekpe said. "And all of the schools that have talked to me have a really good education program."
Ekpe describes himself as a versatile defender that is very physical and quick off the edge. And over the summer he plans on getting his lower body stronger and working on on-the-field techniques.
"I'd say I'm versatile, quick off the edge and very physical," Ekpe said. "I plan to just get stronger, I'm stronger in my upper body but lower body I haven't been quite that strong so I'll be working on that. Then I'll also be working on on-the-field type stuff like rip moves."
Currently Ekpe says he doesn't have a leader and will be taking visits over the summer when he has more time and doesn't plan to make a decision till sometime after his season.
"I'm really researching the schools and taking my time so I really don't have any favorites right now," Ekpe said. "I think I will take some visits over the summer when I have more time and I will probably make a decision after my senior season."
