Meeks Leaves Minnesota Impressed

Orlando (Fla.) Boone quarterback Alton Meeks visited Minnesota this weekend to get a closer look at the Golden Gopher program.

"The visit was pretty good," Meeks said. "Some things that stood out to me were the locker room, it's the biggest in the country, and Minneapolis has over 20 Fortune 500 businesses so there is a lot of opportunity there."

Meeks was able to watch the Gophers practice on Friday night and came away with a positive impression of the team.

"I thought the players and coaches were really energetic and had a lot of enthusiasm," he said. The energy was really good."

Minnesota is recruiting the 6-foot-2, 215-pounder to play quarterback. The Boone high school star, who finished his junior season with 1,400 yards passing and 15 touchdowns, thinks he could fit into the Gophers' scheme at that position.

"I think I could fit [as a quarterback]," he said. They like to have running QB's and I think I fit that mold."

After practice, Meeks had the opportunity to chat with Gopher head coach Jerry Kill.

"He just talked about the opportunities in Minnesota and the school," he said. "They would love to have me up there to play."

Meeks said he could possibly make a return visit to Minneapolis if the opportunity presents itself.
