Goebel Talks Gopher Offer

One top prospect who has seen his recruitment explode recently is Naperville North (Ill.) lineman Colin Goebel. GoldenSports.net caught up with Goebel to discuss one of his newest offers from the Golden Gophers.

Goebel's BCS offer list grew even longer last week when the 6-foot-4 275-pound offensive lineman added an offer from the Minnesota Gophers. Goebel has not had the opportunity to visit the Twin Cities and is unsure if he will.

"I haven't had a chance to visit them (the Gophers) yet. I'm not sure if I will yet."

Goebel has plenty of options as he has offers from 15 schools.

"I have offers from the Miami Hurricanes, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa Minnesota, Kansas, Duke West Virginia," he said. "Those are the big ones."

Goebel is being looked at as both a tackle and as a guard but that won't be a factor for him at the next level.

"Some schools want me as a tackle some as a guard, he said. "I have no preference."

Goebel is a self-described "tough player" who likes to "work hard on the field and give it (his) all."

Goebel already has a sense of what he wants to major in.

"I'm thinking kinesiology or physical therapy."

There are two main things that stand out for Goebel, who has been in contact with Jim Zebrowski from the Gophers, in picking a school.

"My relationship with the coaches and the academics are the most important things for me," he said.

Goebel, who currently favors the Hawkeyes, is visiting Iowa this Saturday to attend a practice.

"Iowa is probably my leader right now," he said. "Iowa and Illinois are my leaders. I like the offensive line coaches (from those schools) the most."
