Gophers Visit Rucker

With an increasing number of offers and interest from around the country, Robbinsdale (Minn.) defensive back Malik Rucker has no shortage of potential schools. One of the schools that has been after Rucker the hardest is the Golden Gophers. Rucker recently received a visit from the Minnesota coaching staff and liked what he heard.

Robbinsdale Cooper defensive back Rucker recently received a visit from Gophers coach Robert Reeves.

"I didn't really get to sit down with him (Coach Reeves)," said Rucker. "He just told my coaches that I'm one of their top recruits and that they really want me. They really liked how I came to the spring practices and my character. They said to just keep up the work and stay in contact with them."

Rucker didn't have a chance to check out the Gophers' spring game as he was in North Dakota.

"It was nice," he said. "It was kind of packed at the spring game. There was a nice amount of people there and it was competitive."

While Rucker wasn't able to attend the Gophers' spring game there was one thing that stood out to him on his visits to Minnesota's practices.

"It was one of the livest practices that I've been to cause they play music and I think created a nice feel for the practice," he said. I liked their practices all around."

Rucker has had a chance to visit Nebraska, Iowa, Iowa State, and Minnesota this spring as well. He plans on visiting Kansas this weekend.

Rucker has a few specific things that he looks for when he goes to practices.

"I like to see how the coaches interact with the players at the spring practices," he said. "I watch how they coach and run practice. All the practices I've been to have been up-tempo and alive so I look for that. I look to see how the players are around the coaches too."

Besides what he looks for at practice Rucker also puts a premium on academics and atmosphere. "I look for the academic support that they have," he said. "I look at the atmosphere of the town and the fans."

Rucker doesn't have a time table for a decision or any leaders at this point.

"I don't really have a leader at this point. I'm not sure when I'll make a decision."
