Former Gophers Sign Pro Contracts

Although none of the draft-eligible Minnesota Golden Gopher football players were selected in the 2012 draft, they each still have a shot at making a pro team.

Following the conclusion of the 2012 NFL Draft on Saturday, teams began contacting undrafted free agents.

Former Golden Gopher teammates Eric Lair and Duane Bennett were both lucky enough to sign contracts with the Green Bay Packers.

As a senior, Lair, a 6-foot-2, 238-pound tight end started three while finishing with 11 catches for 158 yards and a touchdown. He caught 38 passes as a junior.

Bennett rushed for 639 yards (3.8 average) and three touchdowns as a senior, and he returned a kickoff for a touchdown against Wisconsin. The 5-foot-9, 213-pound running back's 2,126 career rushing yards is No. 13 in school history.

Although Lair and Bennett were the only two Gophers to sign a pro contract, receiver Da'Jon McKnight, defensive linemen Brandon Kirksey, Anthony Jacobs and defensive back Kim Royston all are scheduled to participate in the Minnesota Vikings rookie camp.
