Spring Wrap: Quarterbacks

After an up-and-down year at the quarterback position in 2011, the Gophers looked poised to have more success this season. With a strong spring from MarQueis Gray and promising starts from two true freshmen, spring practice showcased a potential strength for the Gophers.

Veteran Poise
Near the end of 2011, MarQueis Gray began to showcase what made him such a sought after recruit coming out of high school. He started to look comfortable in the pocket, making the right reads and hitting his open receivers.

In spring practice, the senior picked up where he left off. Throughout the spring, Gray was far and away the most productive quarterback of the group. He continually made short and deep throws with ease. He routinely tucked the ball and ran when his receivers were covered downfield.

One of the most impressive things that Gray displayed this spring was a new sense of leadership. He had control of the huddle would get on his teammates when they weren't performing.
