Dixon Talks Gopher Offer

Minnesota has been trying to become a recruiting presence in the state of Florida for some time. This cycle appears to be no different as the Gopher staff has been hitting the Sunshine State. One talented player who recently received a Minnesota offer is Seminole Ridge (Fla.) safety Rayfield Dixon. Dixon spoke with GoldenSports.net about his developing recruitment and his offer from the Gophers.

At 6-foot-2, 190 pounds, Dixon possesses great size and athleticism as a defender.

"I would describe myself as a real hardworking player," he said. "If I get one thing wrong the first time, I won't get it wrong again. I can play anywhere – offense, defense, anywhere you want me to. I pick up on things real quick. I'm a real physical player. I have good speed, good footwork. I'm just an all-around athelete. I got some teams saying safety, some teams saying linebacker, some teams saying they want to try me at receiver."

This combination of size, athletic ability, and versatility have led to some new offers for Dixon who already claimed offers from West Virginia and Bowling and has interest from the likes of Indiana, Illinois, Central Florida, and Louisville.

"Tuesday, I picked up four [offers] – Minnesota, FIU, Geogia State, and Tulane," he said.

Dixon has been in contact with the Gophers for awhile and was happy to host the coaching staff at his school.

"Well before practice I introduced myself to the coach and then he watched me practice," he said. "After practice my coach told me they offered me a scholarship."

Dixon already likes a number of things that Minnesota brings to the table.

"I like the coaches a lot," he said. "I like Coach Reeves, we have a real good connection. We talk like two times a week so we've built a relationship. He tells me about the school, the stadium, how they're building up, they're coming up and everything. I like everything that they're telling me."

With plenty of interest and new offers, Dixon is busy researching his various options.

"Well I don't really have any top schools right now," he said. "I'm still doing my research and everything. I'm just enjoying everything and all the coaches I talk to."

Although he claims no favorites, Dixon knows what he is looking for in a school.

"When I go to a school, something I'm looking for is like the environment, where it's located, my connection with the coaches and everything, and I feel like academics is important so academics," he said.

With no favorite in mind, Dixon does not have a timeline for his decision.

"Like I said, I'm still doing my research and everything. I just want to look at all the schools."
