Three Former Gophers Sign Pro Contracts

Although none of the draft-eligible Minnesota Golden Gopher football players were selected in the 2012 draft, three of them have signed a NFL contract.

Following the conclusion of the 2012 NFL Draft on , teams began contacting undrafted free agents.

Former Golden Gopher teammates Eric Lair and Duane Bennett were both lucky enough to sign contracts with the Green Bay Packers, while Anthony Jacobs signed with the Minnesota Vikings.

As a senior, Lair, a 6-foot-2, 238-pound tight end started three while finishing with 11 catches for 158 yards and a touchdown. He caught 38 passes as a junior.

Bennett rushed for 639 yards (3.8 average) and three touchdowns as a senior, and he returned a kickoff for a touchdown against Wisconsin. The 5-foot-9, 213-pound running back's 2,126 career rushing yards is No. 13 in school history.

Jacobs was a four-year letterman for Minnesota. He started all 12 games during his senior season with the Gophers, registering 26 tackles (13 solo and 13 assists). He recorded six tackles-for-loss and one sack during his senior campaign. Jacobs also tallied one sack and forced one fumble last season.
