Lauer helped lead his team to consecutive Prep Bowl appearances. Wayzata finished 12-1 and state runners-up in 2011, while winning the state title and going 11-0 in 2010. He was named All-State by the Associated Press. He also earned All-Metro honors from KARE-11 and the Star-Tribune

Coach Matt Limegrover's Take:

"Ben is a guy, he was an unknown. As Wayzata started playing their senior season we started getting film. We started watching this big left tackle who, for being a 6-7 kid, could really bend and had great—what I call core-awareness. Really, you could tell, had power and had some great balance so he impressed us more and more.

"We just felt like he was as good at the end of his senior season as anybody as an offensive lineman in the state. It's our priority to make sure that we take the best players, the best offensive linemen in the state, particularly, so we felt he was a guy we had to make room for."
