Yancey Looking at Gophers

A Midwest running back who has been in contact with the Gophers for a number of months is Lake Central (Ind.) athlete David Yancey. Yancey was an attendee at Minnesota's spring game and also earned a visit from the Gophers' staff earlier this spring.

Yancey enjoyed his trip to Minnesota a few weeks ago.

"I really liked the Minnesota visit, it was really fun," he said.

One of his favorite parts of the Twin Cities was being able to interact with the Gopher coaches.

"I spoke with Coach Phelps and Coach Kill for a very long time," he said. "They really like me and they said that the main reason for me to visit them was because the wanted to see my body size. They really liked my frame and they said that I might not have to camp with them this summer. Coach Kill and Coach Phelps are really great guys and it really felt like they enjoyed my company."

Yancey also had an opportunity to speak with Indiana native and current Gopher MarQueis Gray.

"I spoke with MarQueis Gray because he is from Indiana just like me," he said. "It was a great experience talking with him. He is truly a great guy."

More recently, the Gophers stopped by to visit Yancey at his school.

"Coach Phelps visited me a couple weeks ago in school and watched me work out," Yancey said. "He said that I have a very good work ethic and he is going to visit me again. He also said that when all the coaches come back from recruiting that they will talk as a staff about a potential offer. I am excited about that."

Along with the Gophers, Yancey had spring visitors from Iowa State, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan State and Cincinnati. Among these schools, Yancey hopes that three are close to offering.

"Iowa State, Minnesota, and Indiana are the closest to offer hopefully," he said.
