Connor Mayes Earns Colorado Offer

The Gophers only have a a few offers out in 2014 but one of them is to Van Alstyne (Texas) offensive lineman Connor Mayes, the brother of 2013 tackle Alex Mayes. The younger Mayes recently picked up his third offer, this one from Colorado.

At 6-foot-5 and 315 pounds as just a sophomore, it is no wonder that Mayes has been picking up serious college interest. Along with offers from Minnesota and Kansas, Mayes recently earned a scholarship opportunity from Colorado.

"I was talking to the offensive line coach from Colorado and he said ‘I probably should have talked to your coach before I do this, but we've already offered you also,'" said Mayes.

The offer came as quite a surprise to him.

"I was kind of in shock at first," he said. "Because I knew that they offered Alex a few weeks ago but I didn't really expect them to come out and offer me also. All in all it was very exciting."

With both Mayes brothers holding offers from Colorado, they hope to take a visit there soon.

"We're going to visit there in about two weeks I think," he said. "I just want to get to know the coaches and players a little better and check out the campus."

Along with his visit to Colorado, Mayes is planning more trips for this summer including one to the Twin Cities.

"I know for sure that were going to Minnesota, TCU, and Texas Tech, and were going to try and make it to some of the other schools that have offered Alex."
