"I pride myself on being intense every play," he said. "I enjoy doing my assignment in order to keep pressure off the secondary. I'm big on pass rushing too. But really, anything I can do to contribute to my team I'm willing to do as a player."
McClain has been in touch with Minnesota for awhile but just recently picked up the scholarship opportunity.
"I've been talking to them for about two months but they offered me officially the middle of this month," he said.
The Minnesota offer was something that McClain was excited about.
"I feel that they have a great program," he said. "They are very interested in me as well, so that's a big plus to me. I met with one of the coaches (Jay Sawvel) last week and he seemed like a good guy."
The Gopher coaching staff is another aspect of Minnesota that McClain likes.
"I like coaches that push their players to the limit," he said.
After receiving an offer from Minnesota, McClain says he would like to take a visit to the Twin Cities.
"I'm hoping to get a visit up there sometime in or after October to get a better view on the program and surrounding area," he said. "Anybody who's passionate about this sport as much as me is who I want to be around helping me reach my goals."
Along with the Gophers, McClain has been hearing from a number of other schools.
"South Alabama and Indiana have been talking to me," he said. FIU and South Florida have also looked my way."
With plenty of interest, McClain is taking the recruiting process slowly and will wait until next fall to commit.
"I want to commit sometime in November," he said. "I'm trying to weigh my options after the next season so I won't make a bad decision on my next home for two years."
