Attrition is expected when a new coaching staff takes over a football program. Jerry Kill and his assistants are no different and have lost a number of players since coming to Minnesota. On Thursday, this attrition continued with the reported departure of linebacker Dwayne Mitchell who signed with Nicholls State.
Mitchell's transfer from Minnesota was first reported by "The Sports Report" and was also detailed on the Nicholls State athletic website.
The 6-foot-2, 215-pound linebacker was originally from New Orleans will return to his home state to play for the Colonels in Thibodaux (La.). Mitchell will be eligible to play next year and will have three years left after playing as a redshirt freshman for the Gophers.
The loss of Mitchell opens up another spot on the Gophers for a 2012 or 2013 recruit.
