Streveler Gets U Offer, Commits

Marian Central Catholic (Ill.) dual-threat quarterback Chris Streveler got an offer from Minnesota on Friday night and gave his commitment to the Golden Gophers shortly after. was able to speak with Streveler on why he chose Minnesota.

What was your timeline today between getting an offer and then making your decision?

"I talked to coach Zebrowski earlier in the day around 5 o'clock and he told me to call him back around 8:30 because they had camp today. So I did and I talked to coach Kill for a little bit and he offered me around 8:30 and they had hinted earlier in the day that they might offer. But yeah when they offered me I was ecstatic and I was freaking out it was a great day and I couldn't have been happier.

"I was told to call coach Zebrowski back in about 30 minutes to let him know because he didn't know if coach Kill was going to offer me or not. So I called him back and let him know and he said you know the only thing that could make this better is if you told me you were going to be a Gopher and I just said I couldn't be happier right now and this has been my No. 1 school throughout and I told him I was going to be a gopher and I couldn't be happier to get it done."

What was the biggest factor in choosing Minnesota?

"They had been my No. 1 school throughout and it's the connection I have with the coaches. I really liked them from the first time I met them even before they were seriously after me. I really like coach [Jerry] Kill and I think he's got that program on the upswing and I think he's going to do great things there and I just want to be a part of it and bring a Big Ten championship to Minnesota to be honest."

Do you plan on attending anymore camps this summer now that you've made your decision?

"As of right now I'm signed up for a couple camps but I'm not going to go I don't really see any point. I'm committed so I don't plan on changing that. I'm completely content with my decision and I thought everything out. This wasn't a spur of the moment thing even though it seems like a bam-bam deal. I had thought every single possibility of getting offers or not getting offers up to this point.

"Earlier in the day I had called my parents and thought this would maybe happen and I sat down and talked with my coaches and everyone who might be able to influence my decision. They all said you know if there's nowhere else you want to be there's no point in waiting. And I thought about it and thought that this is where I want to be and there's no other place that could sway me from Minnesota and you know that's just where I want to be it's where I felt most at home and I'm ecstatic to be a part of it."
