"It feels good," he said. "I'm just happy to be a part of their program and I think I'll fit in good with them."
Andrews claimed offers from Ole Miss and Florida State but in the end, wasn't considering any other schools besides the Maroon and Gold.
"I mean I have offers but I wasn't even really looking at [other schools]," he said. "The whole time I was thinking about committing to Minnesota."
He recently took an official visit to the University of Minnesota and loved being with his future teammates, including his host K.J. Maye, among other things.
"The football players were nice and stuff," he said. "The facilities were really, really nice and they have a good academic program. They're just trying to do better and I think I can fit in with them."
Building relationships with the team was one of the main factors in his decision.
"I think I like the players, the guys I was around," he said.
The Gophers' coaching staff was ecstatic to hear the news that Andrews wanted to give his commitment.
"He was happy, really happy, Coach Sawvel was really happy," said Andrews. "He said he was the happiest man in Mississippi. I committed last night but he called me back tonight and said he was the happiest man in Mississippi."
The Minnesota coaches have reason to be excited for what Andrews will bring to the team.
"I'm a physical player," he said. "I play receiver and stuff but I love tackling. I think I can bring another physical player to that defense."
Now a commit, Andrews is looking forward to watching Minnesota play in a bowl game later this month.
"I'm really excited," he said. "I'm happy for them. They deserved to get to a bowl game. They started out 4-0."
Andrews believes that Minnesota is on the rise and will make it to many more bowl games during his time as a Gopher.
"I see a lot actually," he said. "They're just trying to get better."
Alabama native and linebacker recruit Jonathon Walton took his official visit with Andrews and is a player that Minnesota's newest commit wants to see as part of the Gophers' 2013 class.
"Yes sir, I'm going to try and get Jonathan [Walton], I think I can too," he said.
