Opponent Preview: Indiana

It will be a matchup of top ten teams when the No. 8 Gophers make the trip to Bloomington this Saturday to take on the No. 5 Indiana Hoosiers at Assembly Hall. Game time is set for 11:00 a.m. CT and will be broadcast on Big Ten Network.

No. 8 Minnesota (15-1, 3-0 Big Ten) vs. No. 5 Indiana (14-1, 2-0 Big Ten) Bloomington, Ind. – Assembly Hall
11:00 a.m. CT – Big Ten Network (Gus Johnson, Jim Jackson)

The stakes couldn't be higher for either team as No. 8 Minnesota heads to Bloomington to take on the No. 5 Hoosiers. Both squads have just one loss on the season and will look to knock off their first top-ten opponent of the year. Look for a physical game, especially in the paint as Trevor Mbakwe and Tyler Zeller battle for position. With a very difficult Big Ten schedule, a win for either team will go a long way in working towards a conference title.

Season to Date
The Hoosiers are 14-1 on the season with their only loss coming at the hands of in-state rival Butler in an overtime thriller on December 15. Indiana holds impressive non-conference wins over Georgetown, Georgia, and North Carolina but has yet to face a team as strong as the Gophers.

Coaching Preview
Tom Crean is in just his fifth season with the Hoosiers but has already returned the storied program back to national prominence. Although he holds just a 69-76 record at Indiana, Crean has taken a team that went just 6-25 (1-17 in the Big Ten) during his first season, to being the preseason No.1 this year. The Hoosiers will be one of the most well-coached, disciplined teams the Gophers will see all season.

Last Meeting
The Gophers came up short in their last meeting against Indiana, falling 69-50 at Williams Arena last February. Despite the loss, Austin Hollins had a game-high 14 points and Minnesota held Tyler Zeller to just seven points on 3-of-8 shooting.

Series History
The Hoosiers have been dominant against Minnesota during their 152 previous meetings. Indiana holds a very impressive 89-63 edge over the Gophers while winning 56 of 75 meetings in Bloomington. Despite the history of falling to Indiana, recent trends are more promising for Minnesota. Tubby Smith is 14-7 all-time against the Hoosiers while Tom Crean is just 3-7 when playing the Maroon and Gold.

High-Powered Attack
Indiana is likely the top offense Minnesota will face the season as the Hoosiers lead the nation, averaging an amazing 87.0 points per contest. This comes from great team basketball leading to easy buckets near the rim. Indiana is 11th in the country with 17.3 assists per game and are shooting .511 percent from the field as a team, good for sixth in the land.
