Minneapolis, Minn. – Williams Arena
6:00 p.m. CT – ESPN (Mike Tirico, Dan Dakich)
"They present a ton of problems because they're really, really good when they are allowed to get out and spread out and press and get up into you. They're excellent - we've got to be prepared for that, we didn't do that well here and we've spent a lot of time preparing for that. They've got some guys that are playing enormously well at home and we're getting ready for the best Minnesota team." – Indiana head coach Tom Crean on the problems Minnesota might bring
"We had a great start, but we let them get back in it. Like Coach Crean was saying earlier, we're getting ready to play the top-10 Minnesota. Minnesota is going to come out and give us 100 percent. We have to be ready to play on both ends of the floor." – Hoosiers guard Victor Oladio on the first game against Minnesota
In desperate need of a win, the Gophers will look to pull the upset as the No. 1 ranked Hoosiers come to Williams Arena on Tuesday. Minnesota is just 3-18 all-time when playing the top team in the country but have a legitimate chance of knocking off Tom Crean and Indiana.. After two double-digit losses on the road to Iowa and Ohio State, Minnesota will return to their home floor where they have picked up 12 of their 18 victories on the season.
Season to Date
The Hoosiers are the top team in the country for a reason. They have amassed an amazing 24-3 overall record and lead the Big Ten with a 12-2 mark. Indiana has just one loss in its last 10 games, a two-point defeat at rival Illinois on February 7.
Tom Crean is in just his fifth season with the Hoosiers but has already returned the storied program back to national prominence. Although he holds just a 69-76 record at Indiana, Crean has taken a team that went just 6-25 (1-17 in the Big Ten) during his first season, to being the No.1 team in the land this year.
The Gophers and Hoosiers met on January 12 in Bloomington (Ind.) with the Hoosiers scraping out an 88-81 victory over the Maroon and Gold. After trailing by 23 at the half, Minnesota rallied to within three points during the final 20 seconds of the game but could not find a way to down the Hoosiers. Victor Oladipo led Indiana with 20 points and six rebounds while Trevor Mbakwe recorded a double-double for the Gophers with 13 points and 10 boards.
The Hoosiers have been dominant against Minnesota during their 153 previous meetings. Indiana holds a very impressive 90-63 edge over the Gophers. The trend flips when playing in Minneapolis as Minnesota is 42-33 when playing at home against Indiana. Tubby Smith is 14-8 all-time against the Hoosiers while Tom Crean is just 4-7 when competing against the Maroon and Gold.
