That success did translate over to his recruitment and he explains how the process is going especially with the hometown team, Minnesota.
"It's been going well," Schlichte told GopherDigest. "It's a lot of fun to hear from all these different schools. They tell me things I can improve on and things I do well, so I have been taking to their advice and working on those things during the summer. I don't have any offers yet, but I have been hearing from Minnesota, Iowa, Iowa State, Wisconsin, Purdue, Kent State and Vanderbilt."
"I went up to a couple practices at Minnesota this spring and the spring game and sat in on a couple quarterback meetings with Coach (Jim) Zebrowski. I really enjoy their staff. They're saying they like my film and still want to see me in camp if possible and want to see junior film."
What would it mean if the 6-1, 202-pound Schlichte landed an offer from the Gophers and did he idolized them growing up as well?
"It would definitely be special to get an offer from Minnesota," said Schlichte. "It would mean all the hard work is starting to pay off and even more work to come."
"I was sort of a fan growing up. My dad played and coached at Minnesota State in Mankato, I grew up a true Maverick fan, but after the Maverick games, I would come home and watch Gopher games. I still love watching the Gophers play all the time. I like how their staff seems like great people and not just football coaches."
He plans on attending the Rivals Underclassmen Challenge this coming Sunday. He will also try to make it out to the Gopher Junior Elite One and Iowa State Friday Night Lights if his baseball schedule works out.
