Speed is one of most popular traits colleges are looking for in players today and many have went to the Sunshine State to pluck some of that speed for themselves. One highly touted speedsters that schools are hoping to land is Gainesville (FL.) senior safety Juan Jenkins. He talks about how his recruitment is going and what he felt about when he got his Minnesota offer.
"My recruitment is going pretty good right now," Jenkins told GopherDigest. "I want to say I have around 22 offers. With my Minnesota offer, I was pretty happy when I first got the offer. Coach Anderson had called my phone and said they wanted to offer me. I was very pleased with the news and they came to see me at practice to see how I play."
Relationships are a key in recruiting and Minnesota's Running Back Coach Brian Anderson is building a strong one with Jenkins, which the young talented defender has noticed.
"I talk to Coach Anderson every now and then. He is a cool guy and someone that I like to talk to. He tells to come visit the campus and how beautiful it is up there. One of my old teammates went there on a visit and didn't get to see everything, but he told me that is very nice. I don't know too much about them, but I like how they play and how physical their defensive backs can be."
The 6-0, 195-pound safety maintains that he doesn't have anyone sticking out at the moment, but is in the process of determining his visits for the fall.
"I don't have any favorites yet," said Jenkins. "I actually want to take one of my visits to Minnesota on one of my bye weeks. We will have to see how everything works out. I plan on taking all my visits after the season starts. I plan on visiting to Purdue, Bowling Green and Troy. I want to make my decision during the season like around my third game, but that could change with my visits. I just want to see how I fit at the school and if I get a good vibe from them."
