With things going well on the football field for Minnesota, they are also looking to have that success on the recruiting trail. One of their top targets is Hartland (WI.) Arrowhead senior middle linebacker Matt Seitz, who is having an stellar final season.
"We are having a great season," Seitz told GopherDigest. "We're 10-1 and playing in the 3rd round of the playoffs this week. I have 78 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, 3 sacks and I am on the number 1 defense in the state. I am a finalist for "The John Anderson Award" which is the best linebacker in the state. Overall, I am having a very good year."
The 6-2, 215-pound physical linebacker has vaulted his game up a notch and he talks about the difference in his game from this year to last year.
"I have improved in my play recognition, explosion and agility, which has allowed me to shoot gaps better," said Seitz. "I still need to work on my pass coverage skills and I am working on that."
Seitz is the No. 85 middle linebacker and a two star recruit by Fox Sports Next, but his recruitment is rising and could be on the verge of landing a Big Ten offer.
"Minnesota is showing a lot of interest along with Northern Illinois," said Seitz. "I still only have offers from North Dakota and Butler. My coach thinks Minnesota will offer me soon. They have invited me to every home game, but I have yet to be able to get to one."
"I really like their coaching staff, they're all experienced and knowledgable. I also really like the team concept that they have and their brand new facilities. I would strongly consider Minnesota if they offered me. They are a great program and a program that I could see myself being a part of."
He also said that he will probably go to the Wisconsin vs. Minnesota game on November 23rd as well.
