A top target for Minnesota is Montreal (QC.) Vanier Prep senior defensive end Julien Kafo and he was in town this weekend for the big rivalry game against Wisconsin. While the Gophers fell short on the field this weekend against the Badgers, they got a win on the recruiting trail as the Canadian native decided to pull the trigger and become commit #9 for Minnesota.
"I have committed to Minnesota," Kafo told GopherDigest. "A while ago you know was when I decided I wanted to become a Gopher. I talked to my mother about it before coming down and made a decision!"
The 6-4, 250-pound Canadian defensive end held offers from Pittsburgh, Connecticut and Miami (Ohio), while hearing from Iowa and Nebraska. However, when it came down to it, he felt Minneapolis had everything he wanted and couldn't pass it up.
"You know the coaching staff has all been together for so long and been doing a great job, so I think the program will only go in the right direction on the field and academically," said Kafo. "I am just happy to join this class."
Now with Kafo in this talented class, what doe he plan on bringing to the team when he arrives in Minneapolis?
"Well, I am trying to learn you know and I want to come in and contribute however the coaches feel I can do," said Kafo. "Gopher fans are going to see a hardworking young man trying to bring back a Big Ten championship to the Twin Cities!"
