One of Minnesota's earliest commitments in their 2014 class came from Kansas City (KS.) Wyandotte senior quarterback Dimonic McKinzy. He has been closely following the Golden Gophers big season and was on campus this past weekend for his official visit.
"My visit went very well," McKinzy told GopherDigest. "We visited the mall, we toured the campus and stadium and we ate really good! I sat in a few position meetings and also watched their practice."
"My favorite part of the whole visit was actually just talking with the current players because I know those are going to be my teammates come January. They basically were just talking to me about coming in and making sure I work to earn my playing time."
The 6-0, 200-pound signal caller sits as the No. 44 ranked quarterback in the nation and a three star commit, but he decided very early that Minnesota was the place for him and wanted to let other recruits on their visit about what is happening in Minneapolis.
"It is a great year knowing that Minnesota is still on rise on the field and in recruiting," said McKinzy. "I did do some recruiting during the visit there. I talked to J'vonte (Herrod), Khari (Blasingame), James (Folston) , Christian (Russell) and a few others about how great a school Minnesota is."
While his team didn't have the best season this year, the talented dual-threat quarterback did put up some big numbers and hopes to do the same at Minnesota."We went 4-5 this season and I threw for about 2,500 passing yards and 26 touchdowns," said McKinzy. "I had about 500 rushing yards and 8 rushing touchdowns as well. I am coming in at January and look to work hard to right away. I can't wait to get down in Dinkytown!"
