The Golden Gophers have been on the search for a big playmaking type of wide receiver and recently offered one very capable of coming in and doing that in Ashburn (VA.) Briar Woods senior wide receiver Melvin Holland. He talks about his recent in-home visit with running backs coach Brian Anderson and what it felt like to land the Minnesota offer.
"Coach Anderson came over to my house and we talked about Minnesota," Holland told GopherDigest. "Next, he told me that Minnesota would like me to play wide receiver for them and he offered me. My dad and I both were very excited for that offer."
The 6-3, 190-pound dynamic wide receiver holds offers from Hampton, James Madison, Navy, Old Dominion, Toledo, UNC Charlotte, VMI and now Minnesota. He is also receiving interest from Rutgers and Boston College, but explains what his visit plans look like and how highly he thinks of Minnesota.
"I do plan on visiting Minnesota," said Holland. "I think me and Coach Anderson were talking about visiting on the 17th of January. I can't wait to come visit the great city of Minneapolis. No other visits are really set in stone yet. I am considering visiting Old Dominion, maybe Rutgers and Boston College. I don't really have a top list right now, but Minnesota would be up there."
Holland is looking to turn his attention to his recruitment, so has he set a decision date yet along with what will the factors he takes in consideration when the time arrives to commit?
"My decision will probably come close to signing day," said Holland. "My factors of deciding are based on how education is, if I will be able to study to be a Physical Therapist and how I can contribute to the team and when will I be able to get on the field."
