Blasingame Commits To Minnesota

The Golden Gophers added their 11th commitment tonight when New Market (AL.) Buckhorn safety Khari Blasingame decided to pull the trigger and commit to Minnesota

Minnesota has been working hard in finding some talent from Alabama and were especially very interested with New Market (AL.) Buckhorn senior safety Khari Blasingame.

The 6-1, 200-pound safety took an official visit to Minnesota on November 22 and absolutely loved it. He named the Gophers his leader after the official visit, but was looking at another Big Ten program in the Northwestern Wildcats.

He took an official visit to Northwestern this past weekend and ultimately felt that Minnesota was the place for him to commit tonight.

Defensive Backs Coach Jay Sawvel has been the primary recruiter towards Blasingame and he has built a strong relationship with the new Gopher commit.

"I like Coach Sawvel a lot," said Blasingame. "He is a really cool guy and I have a pretty good relationship with him. The education up there is really good and what they are doing is building a pretty good program."

He held offers from Northwestern, Middle Tennessee, South Alabama and UAB while receiving interest from Auburn, Georgia Tech, Memphis, Mississippi and Vanderbilt.

Blasingame is the eleventh commit in this class and the only safety commit currently in the Golden Gopher class.

In his senior season, he totaled 74 tackles with 58 of them being solo tackles, 2 interceptions, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. He also had on the offensive side of the ball, 1,163 total purpose yards and 10 touchdowns.
