Minnesota landed their eleventh commit last night in New Market (AL.) Buckhorn senior safety Khari Blasingame and today added another piece to their class with Iowa Western outside linebacker Cody Poock committing. He explains his decision and when it hit him that it was the right time to go ahead and commit to Minnesota.
"The reason I picked Minnesota was because I thought I had a better relationship with the coaches specifically my position coach in Coach Miller," Poock told GopherDigest. "The players are what I like meaning they all play with a chip on their shoulder. I am a blue collar type guy and I feel like I fit in best with them."
"I would say Thursday night and Friday morning, it hit me that I wanted to become a Gopher. I really enjoyed the campus and facilities. The atmosphere of the game that I went to in the Wisconsin game and that was big. It had a good atmosphere."
The 6-3, 230-pound physical JUCO linebacker held offers from TCU, Illinois, New Mexico amongst others, but felt he couldn't pass up the opportunity presented to him from Minnesota. However, some are probably wondering, how long does he have to be a Gopher and what will he bring to the team in terms of his skill set?
"I have four to play three, so I will be a true freshman," said Poock. "I could redshirt one if they want me to and then I could play three. I will bring good effort, good attitude and be a very hard worker. I am just so excited to be a Gopher!"Poock joins Mansfield (TX.) Legacy outside linebacker Everett Williams as the other linebacker in this Golden Gopher class.
