One of the top linebackers in the Midwest for 2015 is Lakeville (MN.) South junior middle linebacker Josh Corcoran. The 6-3, 225-pound hard hitting linebacker had a stellar junior season as he recorded 83 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, 4.5 sacks and 3 blocked field goals. With the year over, he is still hard at work to stay physically in shape and is focusing on really adding an extra burst of speed to his game.
"I don't have a winter sport, but I am lifting a lot and really focusing on my legs and speed," Corcoran told GopherDigest. "I am focusing on speed a lot this off season and not as much size or gaining weight. I also train with a trainer at lifetime and his name is Steve Rosga. I train on power plates for speed and keep at it."
Corcoran is the No. 10 ranked middle linebacker for the 2015 class and a three star recruit by Scout.com. He is already gaining early interest from Iowa, Nebraska, Iowa State, Wisconsin, Florida State and Minnesota in his recruitment, but is still working to land his first offer. He talks about his interest in the hometown Golden Gophers and if he grew up a fan of Minnesota.
"My recruitment is going good," said Corcoran. "It's pretty slow right now just because of National Signing Day coming soon, so all the schools are really focusing on the senior class. I am very interested in Minnesota. It would mean so much to get an offer from my home state school! I've been working the last 4 years for that opportunity. Both my parents aren't from Minnesota, so not till I was about 10 did I start watching the Gophers and become a fan."
As a fan of the Gophers, he recently watched the Texas Bowl against Syracuse, but while Minnesota fell short of the victory, he was proud of his good friend and current Gopher quaterback Mitch Leidner.I did watch the Minnesota bowl game and it was a tough loss, but glad to see Mitch Leidner play good," said Corcoran. "We're from the same high school. We are good friends and we trained together last spring and went to yoga together. I'm really good friends with his brother Matt, so I know the family well."
