There are two guys in discussion for this honor in Van Alstyne (TX.) four star center Connor Mayes or Minnesota's other four star commit in this class in Washburn, Minneapolis (MN.) running back Jeffrey Jones. I give the edge to Jones, who has exploded really on the recruiting scene this week from his impressive performance in the first few Under Armour practices down in Orlando, Florida. Jones really had an amazing senior season and put up some big numbers. Teams are still trying to flip him from Minnesota and this one will go all the way down to Signing Day.
Big Fish Left
Chanhassen (MN.) four star offensive tackle Frank Ragnow has been heavily recruited all year and the Golden Gophers are looking to keep him home. He does have a top six of Arkansas, Florida State, Miami Fl, Minnesota, Ohio State and Wisconsin, but it seems like three schools are sticking out the most out of the bunch in Arkansas, Florida State and Minnesota. Ragnow has taken an official to those three schools and is thinking about possibly taking official to Ohio State. The 6-6, 285-pound is in no rush of making an decision and this one will come down to the wire.
Class OutlookWith Minnesota having 13 commits and this class going to be a small one, spots are at a premium. Offered late in the process, Ashburn (VA.) Briar Woods big physical wide out Melvin Holland is taking an official visit later in the month to Minneapolis and the Gophers are really pushing hard to land him. Muscle Shoals (AL.) cornerback Martavius Mims took an official to Minnesota and had a great time and really bonded with the other commits. Wouldn't be shocked to see him join the fold, when it is all said and done. They still are looking to add that complimentary back with Jones and have been pursuing Georgia native running back J'vonte Herrod, who enjoyed his visit to Minnesota earlier this year. This new year, Minnesota is hoping their success from 2013 translates to the recruiting trail for their 2014 class.
