One of the most important positions in the Minnesota offense is the fullback, but with the departure of senior fullback Mike Henry, there is a void to fill. The Gophers have addressed that issued in recruiting by landing Bulter County CC fullback Miles Thomas.
"Coach Schaekel message me and asked me recently if I would be interested in Minnesota and I said yes," Thomas told GopherDigest. "Then the next day Coach Miller called me to tell me more about the walk-on opportunity at Minnesota. Yesterday, I called Coach Reeves to get the last bit of info and after talking to him I told him I was coming."
What sold the 6-0, 238-pound hard hitter to come to Minneapolis and play for the Golden Gophers?
"I know Minnesota has prestigious academics and I like that they run a lot of fullback," said Thomas. "They are recruiting me for fullback and they said I would just carry out the duties of a normal fullback like pass block run block and a few catches a game. I will have two years to play and I'm so excited to be a Gopher!!! This is an unbelievable opportunity and I'm truly blessed."
His fellow teammate in fullback Riley Oharah has accepted the same offer as Thomas to come play for Minnesota and will be reunited and he talks about getting to compete his friend for a few more years.
"It will be great," said Thomas. "Riley and I are close friends, and will continue to push each other. I look forward to playing with him once again."
